Supporting the Vision

The Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map Place Types outline aspirational characteristics for future development beyond just land use, including elements such as built form and design, parks and public spaces, streetscapes, mobility patterns, amenities, and much more. Together, these details of the Place Types promote a myriad of Complete Communities across Charlotte.

To fully realize the aspirations of the Place Type recommendations and advance South Inner’s priority goals and greatest needs, future development will need support from City and County agencies that manage issues related to Mobility, Open Space, Environmental Justice & Sustainability, Community Character, and Public Services. This section takes a close look at current conditions and specific needs related to these topics for the East Inner geography. Each topical assessment identifies future improvements or investments needed for areas recommended to evolve into mixed-use Place Types, including Neighborhood Centers, Community Activity Centers, Regional Activity Centers, and Innovation Mixed-Use. These assessments provide consistent data for residents, developers, staff, and officials to reference in future decision-making, including both public and private sector investment, to responsibly align capital investments and strategic growth capacity (Charlotte Future 2040 Goal 10).
